Is that block an iceberg?

Someone asked me a great question related to last week’s article:

Do we have to go deeper every time we’re having a problem?  Aren’t there times when pushing through works?

Sometimes, we come up against something and there’s not a lot of energy attached to it.  Pushing through works and you end up with more confidence and more experience of success.

This can build momentum and help you the next time you encounter some inner gunk.

The Way In

Sometimes, though, the current block is the tip of an iceberg, with old fears, past experiences and limiting beliefs connected to it. There’s so much there, that just pushing through it is either really, really hard, or it’s not doable.

What many people don’t know is that those situations are actually a great opportunity to get that more hidden stuff cleaned out.

It’s like a doorway to a hidden room has opened, and now you have the chance to do some cleaning out and big releasing.

Pushing through is like walking past the open door and missing the gift that’s available to you.

And with the energy-clearing tools available, the cleaning out is so much easier and faster than the pushing through!  And the payoffs can be enormous.

Why we need a doorway

We need these doorways because we can do such an effective job of closing off the past.

We tell ourselves that we have a handle on it all, that the stuff that’s in the past is in the past and we’re moving on from here.

Unfortunately, that doesn’t always make it true.

If part of us doesn’t believe it, or we have a thought like, “I don’t deserve to be happy after what I did”, or a belief like, “The world isn’t a safe place”, then we don’t fully move on.  That part and those beliefs are keeping us tied to what happened.

And we don’t want to see it.

It’s uncomfortable so we look the other way.  And we keep pushing through.  And sometimes it feels like we’re walking with cinderblocks tied to our ankles.

It’s hard and it makes us really tired.

Plus, most people don’t have the tools to fully release the gunk.  Who would want to pull all that stuff out of the closet, look at it and then stuff it back in?!  Yet without a way to release it, that’s what would happen.

Fulfilling Our Human Drive

As humans, we have an innate drive to grow, to get bigger and better.  It’s part of being alive and it’s something we share with every living thing.  It’s a desire to perpetuate life.

We don’t want to just be alive, we want to feel alive.  We want to live.

And our baggage from the past gets in the way of that.  It can be big, like a boulder in our path, or small, like a root that we keep tripping over.

Moving Forward with Greater Ease

Whether it’s big or small, why not clear it out so you don’t keep running into it?

A client worked on something like this recently.  She was procrastinating writing her blog and, while she might have been able to just “make herself do it”, she realized that there was deeper stuff at work.  She described it as feeling like part of her was pushing her forward and another part was pulling her back.

It’s hard to move forward when you’re at the center of a tug-of-war.

She knew that the writing issue was the tip of an iceberg.  Her fear of not being liked and her sharp criticism of herself didn’t start with the writing.  They were connected to something deeper and she wanted to clear that, too.

At the end of our session, she said, “My jaw is very relaxed, my shoulders feel firm and more open, the tightness in my throat and chest is gone and I feel very grounded.”

Just think how much more you could get done – how much more quickly you could move forward – if you weren’t dragging around cinderblocks.

Is there a time when you’ve felt the freedom of letting go of old stuff?  What difference did it make for you?  I’d love to hear about it in the comments below.
